Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay attended the funeral of the late filmmaker-actor Manobala in Chennai. However, his arrival caused a commotion amongst the crowd present at the late actor's residence, requiring considerable effort from the cops and bodyguards to safely navigate him through the crowd.

The visuals on the news channels also showed Vijay extending his condolences to Manobala's family. The deceased filmmaker-actor was a great admirer of Vijay, frequently expressing his admiration for him in public. The two had collaborated on several films, including Theri, Nanban, and Bigil.

Manobala passed away on Tuesday morning owing to health issues. According to reportes, he was suffering from liver-related ailments. He was 69 years.

Apart from Vijay, Manobala shared a strong bond with many high-profile members of the Tamil film fraternity, and a multitude of individuals from the industry showed up at Manobala's residence to pay their respects.

Before entering the film industry, Manobala worked as a journalist. He commenced his career in movies as an assistant to the renowned filmmaker Bharathiraja. Since the late 1970s, he appeared in several minor roles in movies. In 1982, he made his directorial debut with the romantic drama Agaya Gangai, featuring Karthik and Suhasini in the lead roles.

Manobala went on to direct more than 40 movies, including Moondrezhuthil En Moochirukkum, Mallu Vetti Minor, Moodu Manthiram, Sirai Paravai, and Pillai Nila, collaborating with the biggest stars of Tamil cinema at the time.

Aside from directing, Manobala gained recognition for his acting abilities and appeared in over 170 films, showcasing his talent in character roles and comedy.

However, over the past year, Manobala has experienced multiple health issues, resulting in him feeling more fatigued and isolated on set in recent months. Earlier this year, he also underwent a heart procedure.

Manobala is survived by his wife, Usha, and son, Harish.
