After much speculation and discussions, the makers of Karthik Yogi's Dikkiloona, starring Santhanam in three roles, was dropped on Zee5 on Friday. The movie was initially supposed to hit the screens in 2020, but got postponed owing to the second wave and uncertainty that prevailed everywhere.
Producer Kotapadi J Rajesh aka KJR, issued a release in which he has explained why he had to let the movie go the OTT way. His film, Ka Pae Ranasingam, which had Vijay Sethupathi and Aishwarya Rajesh playing lead roles, too, had a premiere on Zee5 in 2020.
He said, "The industry underwent many changes in the last 18 months, and we had to face a lot of pressure on a daily basis. I remember many people warning me against releasing Ka Pae Ranasingam on Zee5, but I had the last laugh." This year, too, he had to make a similar decision for a comedy movie which was actually meant for a theatrical release. He added that the team had to skip theatres for the Santhanam-starrer because the situation hadn't changed much with regard to the pandemic. But he is said to be elated by the response he has been receiving on social media in the last couple of days.
"I am happy that we could provide some laughter during a tough time like this. Our aim was to come up with an entertaining film, and I'm glad that people are finding Dikkiloona to be a hilarious movie," he said. Shirin Kanchwala and Anagha played female leads in the film, the story of which revolves around an EB lineman, who travels in time to change some of the events which happened in his life seven years ago. Yogi Babu, Anandraj, Munishkanth, Chitra Lakshman and Naan Kadavul Rajendran play important roles in Dikkiloona which has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
