At first, the idea of a connection between Sajid Khan's brainless comedy Houseful 2 and Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund's Palme d'Or-winning satire, Triangle of Sadness may appear implausible. However, a closer examination reveals an intriguing similarity between these seemingly disparate films.

Also, if you haven't seen Triangle of Sadness yet, you are missing out on a comedic masterpiece. As this copy will be discussing major spoilers, it is advisable to first indulge in Triangle of Sadness, now streaming on SonyLIV, before proceeding.

In the first half of Houseful 2, which came out in 2012, two couples, played by Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Asin and Jacqueline Fernandez, accidentally get marooned on a deserted island without any food or basic supply. And soon, Akshay's Sunil and John's Max find out that their situation is not as dire as it seems. They have just landed on the other side of a luxury resort. However, the heroes conspire with their friends to pretend they are surviving through their caveman instincts, while keeping their unsuspecting girlfriends, played by Asin and Jacqueline, in the dark about the true nature of their surroundings.

This comedic setup in Houseful 2 proves to be merely a fleeting moment, devoid of any substantial narrative significance.

In Triangle of Sadness, the luxury yacht carrying some of the world's richest people comes under attack by sea pirates, leaving only a few survivors stranded on a deserted island. With no discernable skills to survive in the wild, the world's wealthiest individuals become subservient to Abigail, who was employed as the cleaning lady on the ship. Given that she can catch wish with her bare hands and create fire, she becomes the most valuable person in the group. In the end, Abigail and her sidekick Yaya, make a stunning discovery: they were stranded on the other side of a luxury resort all along.

But, unlike Houseful 2, the twist in Triangle of Sadness carries a weighty moral significance, leaving audiences in a state of profound contemplation and dilemma.

The question did Ruben Östlund think of it himself or he stumbled on the 'Do you Know' song from Houseful 2 on YouTube and used it in his movie, which bagged three Oscars nominations and won the coveted Palme d'Or at the Cannes film festival?
