During the release of every new movie of Superstar Rajinikanth, the debate about 'who's the next superstar?' resurfaces. With Jailer just a few days away , this decade-old question has boiled up to the surface again. And by large consensus, Thalapathy Vijay seems to be the popular choice for that coveted title in Tamil cinema. Irrespective of what's Vijay's feelings and thoughts about pitting him against Rajinikanth, who he considers his role model, the debates rage on.

In light of the renewed debate over the 'Superstar' title, we have dug out an old video that shines some light on the professional and personal dynamics that Vijay shares with Rajinikanth. In 2016 Ananda Vikatan awarded Rajinikanth's performance in Kabali. And Thalapathy Vijay was invited to present the award to the Superstar.

After he presented the award, he thanked the big-heartedness of Rajinikanth for showing no qualms in taking the award from him. He described that event as the proudest moment in his life.

"Rajini sir knows how to deliver a masala movie like Murattu Kaalai and he also knows how to make us weep with movies like Mullum Malarum. Giving me an award is a proud moment in my life. I would like to thank him magnanimity for agreeing to accept an award from me. And I would like to thank my fans, whose unconditional support has propelled me to where I stand today and has granted me this extraordinary opportunity," Vijay said at the event.

It's worth noting that Vijay never missed showing his admiration for Rajinikanth during the early days of his career. And he convinced his father SA Chandrasekar to launch his film career by re-enacting Rajinikanth's interval-scene performance from Annaamalai.

Jailer is written and directed by Nelson. And the movie is due in cinemas on August 10 . Besides Rajinikanth, the movie also stars Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Tamannaah, Ramya Krishnan, Sunil, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Vinayakan, among others.
