The news on Robo Shankar's death that surfaced during the late hours of Thursday, has sent shock waves across the industry of Tamil cinema. The comedian-actor, who started off his journey by doing small shows, had become a prominent face in both small and big screen of entertainment. Robo Shankar died at the age of 46 following several health complications.

Who was Robo Shankar?

For those who don't know, Robo Shankar first began his career by appearing in uncredited roles in Tamil films like Dharma Chakkaram, Padayappa, Joot, and Aai. But it was during the stand-up comedy show Kalakka Povathu Yaaru, Robo Shankar gained his prominence. He was a mimicry artist and earned his prefix after performing robotic dance moves.

Slowly from appearing in television shows, Robo Shankar later went on to act in films by doing small roles. He had come in films like Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara which gave him some screen space attention, Kappal, and Vaayai Moodi Pesavum.

Later, some of his roles in Maari opposite Dhanush, Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran which had Vishnu Vishal, and Singapore Saloon, gave the late actor a notable role which the critics received well as well.

Robo Shankar had been active ever since and went on to star in multiple films through the years. However. it was only lately the comedian had kept himself away from the public eye and silver screen, given he had been going through treatment for jaundice. Many of his fans had expressed concern on his immense weight loss. Nevertheless, Robo Shankar had appeared in films like Are You Ok Baby, Jolly O Gymkhana, Singapore Saloon and many more. His latest releases this year were Desingu Raja 2 and Sotta Sotta Nanaiyathu.

Robo Shankar dies at 46

It sent shock waves to film fraternity upon hearing the demise of Robo Shankar late Thursday. The actor had been keeping low profile for sometime now, due to health complications. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai.

The hospital statement revealed that since September 16 he was admitted in a critical condition with a massive gastrointestinal bleed and multi organ dysfunction secondary to a complex abdominal condition. He was under critical care unit. However, his health declined and subsequently passed away on Thursday, at 9.05 pm.

Many actors who have known Robo Shankar, have been paying their last respects to him. Dhanush, Vijay Antony, politician and former actor Udhayanidhi Stalin, visited the bereaving family to offer their condolences.
