Has Nivin Pauly’s Thaaram been shelved or will it resume after the actor gets back in shape? This has been the question that has done rounds ever the team of the big-budget, highly anticipated film decided to pause its production after just a day’s shoot in November 2022 in Manali.

Fans further speculated that the movie has been dropped after one of its co-producers, Listin Stephen, had recently commented that the OTT rights of his collaboration with Nivin Pauly, Ramachandra Boss & Co, were yet to be sold. The producer compared the actor’s film a “luxury car” alluding his remuneration and market value, but didn’t quite get the returns Listin had anticipated.

Wanted Nivin Pauly to get back in shape for Thaaram: Vinay Govind

Now, in an exclusive chat with OTTplay, the film’s director Vinay Govind, who had spent close to seven years working on Thaaram only for it to be paused after a day’s shoot, shares the status of the project, which was also supposed to have Nikhila Vimal, Kayadu Lohar and Vinay Forrt.

“It’s a big budget film and it requires a lot of people from different industries to come together. The biggest challenge for Thaaram is to bring all of them together, and our industry hasn’t seen too many of such big budget ventures. It’s also a movie that has to be done on that scale for it to work,” says Vinay Govind, whose latest film Get-Set Baby hit theatres on February 21.

On why the production was halted, the director explains, “We also wanted Nivin in a particular physical appearance. Because of the backlogs due to the pandemic, it didn’t happen even when all the permutations and combinations with other actors had almost worked out. However, he is now getting back in shape. So, hopefully let’s see. Things will again have to fall in place.”
