With Vetrimaaran by her side, Mask actor Andrea Jeremiah reveals getting no offers after Vada Chennai: Lot of actors don't want powerful women in their films

Actor and singer Andrea Jeremiah will be starring and producing the upcoming Tamil film Mask. The film, which co-stars Kavin in the lead, and will hit theatres next week, is expected to show Andrea in a different shade of role. Speaking at the promotions of Mask, Andrea revealed about that one point in her career when she did not get any roles after doing her much-talked about character Chandra from Vada Chennai.

Andrea Jeremiah, who began her career as singer, then shifted to acting and aced roles in films like Aayirathil Oruvan and Taramani. Her one of the most talked about characters is that of Chandra from Vada Chennai, a gangster actioner helmed by Vetrimaaran.

On the sidelines of promoting Mask, Andrea in an interview with Galatta Plus roundtable with Mask team, had Vetrimaaran (who was Mask’s mentor) by her side when she said that after doing Chandra from Vada Chennai, she did not get any roles or offers.

Post Chandra, I did not get any film offers. I got a lot of praise, acclaim but no work, because no one knew what to do with me. I think unfortunately, a lot of actors don't want powerful women in their films.” Andrea expressed her confusion then on how even after delivering good character, she did not get any offers. Andrea recalled Vetrimaaran saying, "He asked me to wait and that people will start writing roles for me, because I am not fitting into the box.
