2024 began on a much better note for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after it faced criticism for the lackluster content released throughout 2023. We have been treated to two shows on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar in India, while only one movie from the Marvel roster will hit the theaters (Deadpool & Wolverine). Following the brilliant success of Echo, the studio introduced one of the most anticipated shows, X-Men ‘97. This animated series, which continues the tale of the mutants from the iconic ‘90s show, launched on Disney+ this year and took the world by storm.

The arrival of X-Men '97 signifies a deeper integration of mutants into the MCU, going beyond mere mentions, cameos, and plot devices. If you're excited about that, brace yourself for two major updates following the new episode of the show, with exciting developments to share. To hint at one: the show will have multiple additional seasons, which the studio plans to shoot back-to-back. Read on to discover the other updates and everything else you should know about today's most interesting news.

X-Men ‘97 to Have Multiple More Seasons

X-Men ‘97 has quickly found an audience that seems eager to stick around for future seasons, showering each episode with love. This enthusiastic reception has given the show’s creators the confidence to invest further and expand this IP, recognizing a real hunger for more content. Seasons 1 and 2 of X-Men ‘97 have already been produced and will be released close together. There were reports that the studio greenlit a third season at the beginning of April 2024. But you might not be prepared for this update: the makers are now planning multiple new seasons beyond the second one.

This means that just as they completed work on X-Men ‘97 Seasons 1 and 2 together, they will employ the same bulk-creation strategy for the next few seasons to minimize waiting times for the audience. So far, there are no details on the storylines for the upcoming seasons. However, the success of the show comes as a ray of hope for a studio that has been struggling to win back its audience.

Black Panther Enters X-Men ‘97?

We always planned to drop that bomb suddenly in this news update. King T’Challa’s passing was not an easy moment for any of us. Chadwick Boseman left a void that is far from being filled, but his legacy is indeed being carried forward in the MCU. According to a recent teaser by former showrunner Beau DeMayo, we might see Black Panther making a cameo in the show, much like Captain America did this week when he teamed up with Rogue, taking fans by storm.

When a fan asked Beau DeMayo on X (formerly called Twitter), “One more question @BeauDemayo, although his appearance in the original X-Men series was brief, it established T’Challa/Wakanda’s existence. Given the King’s relationship with Ororo, could that small cameo expand in 97? The UN tease could create an opportunity for T’Challa/Wakanda to show up?” He replied, “Ain't that funny,” and left it there. This was enough of a hint for fans to conclude that T’Challa is coming to X-Men ‘97.

New episodes of X-Men ‘97 drop on Disney+ Hotstar every Wednesday. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
