Suparn S Varma's statement

On hearing that Haq featuring Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi is inspired from the Shah Bano case, Siddiqua Begum, Shah Bano's daughter, sent the makers a legal notice. She alleged that the movie was filmed without the consent of the family. "Our legal teams are talking directly to theirs. So, I'm not in a position to talk about it," Suparn Varma told Mid-Day, adding that the movie is not inspired by Shah Bano case alone but a fictional work inspired by various cases.

The recently released Haq trailer had revealed how a Muslim woman Shazia was expected to keep up with her husband marrying another woman and divorcing her through Sharia law (triple talaq) while paying her some alimony money. His actions force Shazia to move court and question if a Muslim woman in India can find justice under secular law or should follow Sharia law.
