Yash’s official fan club confirms #Yash19 will have a woman in the director’s chair

Rocking Star Yash’s fans are restless with anticipation about word on his much-awaited next. It’s been more than a year since his last release – KGF: Chapter 2 – and he has consistently maintained his Rocky Bhai locks and bearded look throughout. Initially, it was believed that it was because he’d be back on set to reprise the role for the third instalment in the saga, which Hombale Films had announced would go on floors by the end of 2022. However, director Prashant Neel’s calendar could not accommodate it, as he is still working on Salaar with Prabhas, which has to be in theatres in September this year.

In the meantime, it was said that Yash was moving away from Hombale Films, with who he had done three films already (Masterpice, KGF1 & 2), and would partner with KVN Productions, instead. The question, then, was, if it’s not Prashant, then who is directing the Rocking Star. The immediate answer was Narthan, who had apparently pitched a script to Yash before KGF became the monstrous hit it did eventually. #Yash19 was Narthan’s or so one thought. The success of KGF2 changed that and after months of will he, won’t he, Narthan moved on and began working on Bhairathi Ranagal with Shivarajkumar. Several other big names were heard as likely directors, but their current commitments did not align with Yash’s plans.

Throughout it all, anytime Yash was asked about his next, all he said was that he was looking at taking a break from being Rocky Bhai and that a script was in development. The delay in announcing it, it would seem, is because he had not found the right person to handle it and him. Then, a couple of weeks ago, social media was abuzz with speculation that Yash was likely to collaborate with a female director and the frontrunner was, supposedly, Malayalam filmmaker-actor Geethu Mohandas. Fans, of course, were divided over this bit of news, mostly because many were unaware of her credentials and those who did were not confident that she could handle Yash’s star power and image effectively, given her last was the critically-acclaimed Moothon. Yet they were quick to find a video clip of an old interview with Geethu, in which she’d said that she was looking at making a gangster flick. Could this be her collaboration with Yash, after all.

Since the start of the year, fans have been expecting the #Yash19 announcement to happen at any moment. Even OTTplay was once told by a member of his inner circle that he was prepping to reveal all sometime in late March. A month later, there’s no word yet. Earlier today, though, a fan tweeted to an official fan club, asking for a small hint about the director off #Yash 19. The fan wanted to know which industry the director belonged to and if ‘he’ is from Sandalwood after all, to which the fan club responded “HE❌ SHE✅”. “Geethakka fix”, is what fans have been replying to this, confirming the Yash-Geethu Mohandas collaboration.
