Yuva Rajkumar on Ekka: The look in the teaser is inspired by Jackie, but there’s no other connection

Netizens are convinced that Ekka has a Jackie connect, which Yuva explains is only because of the get-up he has in the teaser. Ekka releases on July 18 and will set the record straight

Ever since Yuva Rajkumar’s second film was announced as Ekka, there’s been widespread speculation that the Rohit Padaki directorial has been inspired by the late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar’s Jackie. This, says Yuva, probably stems from the fact that Jackie had an Ekka Raja Rani song. For his film, though, the actor explains that Ekka was just an apt title. “Ekka means Ace, which has two perceived values in a pack of cards. Here, it signifies the two shades of the character Muthu and his journey from one to the other,” said Yuva on Stars Express.

But then, when they released a teaser of the character, which was even more reminiscent of Puneeth in Jackie, the speculation about a connect between the two films came back even stronger. “What we’ve shown in the teaser is the character’s madness. To sport such an outfit and put a gun within a broom, there has to be a reason for it. So, when an occasion arose for such a look, we took inspiration from chikkappa’s (Puneeth’s) character in Jackie. Besides this, there is no other connection between the films,” Yuva stated.
