A day ago, Kannada cinema’s Century Star had taken to social media to extend his support to actress Ramya, who is being subjected to unspeakable online abuse by fans of actor Darshan Thoogudeepa. He had decried the language used against Ramya and said that all women ought to be given respect. Reacting to this was actor Yuva Rajkumar’s estranged wife Sridevi Byrappa, who called out the family’s hypocrisy, as this level was understanding and support was not extended to her.

She took to social media and posted a story calling the family ‘hypocrites’. She wrote, “When you see people speaking out against the humiliation of women in the media, but when all of this happening in your own family, you just don’t speak up.”
It’s been a year since news broke of actor Yuva Rajkumar’s divorce proceedings against estranged wife Sridevi Byrappa citing mental cruelty. At the time, it was said that the couple had split over Yuva’s alleged closeness to his co-star Sapthami Gowda, but the divorce petition largely cited Sridevi as the villain in the relationship, which she vowed to contest.
In his divorce petition, Yuva has alleged massive financial misappropriation by Sridevi from the Dr Rajkumar Academy, among others, but the final straw was an allegation that she was having an extra-marital affair, all of which the actor’s lawyer made public knowledge by addressing the media. This character assassination of a woman was not acknowledged by Shivarajkumar at the time, which has prompted her to react on social media. Darshan fans, of course, wasted no time to share screenshots of her Instagram story to troll the Rajkumar family.
The issue with Ramya began after she posted developments from the actor’s ongoing Supreme Court case about his bail and her hopes of justice being served for the family of slain Renukaswamy. The murdered man was alleged to have sent obscene messages to Darshan’s ‘good friend’ Pavitra Gowda, and the operation to teach him a lesson went awry, when he succumbed to the injuries he suffered. Darshan is accused number 2 in the case and has been out on bail, which the state government has challenged.
