Right from the time the veteran actress Zeenat Aman had made her debut on social media (Instagram to be precise), she has been filling the social media space with gems of yesteryears. Be it throwback photographs from one of her yesteryear films or be it her recent (stunning) photoshoots, the ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’ lady has always presented her fans and followers with nothing less than golden memories.
This time round, Zeenat Aman took to social media and gave her opinion about the headlines that the glossies and tabloids used to thrive on… to sell their stuff! Zeenat Aman took to social media and posted a handful of covers of old filmi magazines. The USP of these magazines were that it was none other than Zeenat Aman who was on the cover!
The actress' take on magazines' headline
The actress posted, “If the headlines were to be believed, in 1979 I had cursed myself, in 1982 I was being picked on, in 1984 I was out of sync, in 1985 I was marching towards self destruction, and in 1998 I was shattered! There was a time that I subscribed to glossies and tabloids, but that passed very quickly. I could not relate at all to the person they presented me as. The headlines would be adulatory one day and vicious the very next. There was little by way of fact checking, and no remorse for errors made. When they got the story right - it was usually a colossal breach of privacy. When they got it wrong - those blatant lies would be taken as the gospel. These “scandals” took their toll. It was its own form of public humiliation, and I remember the anxiety, outrage and grief that came with these”.
The lady continues...
The lady continued by stating that, at some point her skin had toughened, and the realisation dawned that it was impossible for her to challenge the persona that they (the film magazine guys) wanted to create. She even revealed that the one time she had confronted an erstwhile editor about a malicious story, she (the ‘erstwhile editor’) was full of excuses but not a single apology. That’s when Zeenat Aman says that she had made up her mind at that time not to take such stuff personally. She added that, undignified as it was, their (the magazine guys) only interest was selling their magazines!
In the end, Zeenat Aman said, “All this is just to say - people will always find reason to talk, and so it’s probably best not to allow their opinion or perception to define your life. You can do that for yourself”.
On the professional front, Zeenat Aman will be seen along with Shabana Azmi and Abhay Deol in the film ‘Bun Tikki’. The film is being directed by Faraz Arif Ansari.
