Colors mini series story: Shashi (Chethan Kumar) is a delivery agent for a textile weaver, who has taken a fancy to a sales girl, Nayana (Ashwitha Hegde), at a store he regularly drops of orders. His hesitance in broaching this matter with her stems from the fact that he has a slight issue, which, doesn’t affect his quality of life, but the way he sees things around him. Shashi is colour blind. Will Nayana be okay with that and bring colour into his life?

Colors mini series review: 6 episodes spanning about an hour in total run-time is all that writer-director Shreekara Bhat needed to tell the simple but beautiful love story, Colors. At the core of the tale is his protagonist Shashi, whose name, as well as that of the heroine, we get to hear only about half-way through the proceedings and his minor disability. The world’s monochrome for him, which didn’t affect him in the slightest, until the girl he likes describes a flower market and its vibrant hues with such fervour that he begins to wonder what he’s missing out on and if he can ever see things the way she does.

There are multiple things that work for Colors. For starters, the subject and the fact that the protagonist has chosen to work in the textile industry, where colours and combinations are of utmost importance and he can’t tell one from the other.

Second, the cast featuring Ashwitha Hegde and Chethan Kumar. The duo has an easy-going charm and chemistry, which is refreshing. Their interactions have a sense of normalcy to them and nothing is given a larger-than-life treatment for the sake of creative liberty. They are also easy on the eye and their onscreen relationship is cute, heart-warming and relatable.

While the series aims to shed light on the condition of colour blindness, it is also about the importance of acceptance. The possibility of being able to see some form of colour with the help of special glasses imported from abroad does not excite the protagonist as much as having the love of his life bring colour into his life.

The only minor grouse I had is that as someone who’s used to binge-watching on OTTs and having the next episode pop up automatically without having to move a finger, finding out that YouTube may just direct you to episode 5 after the first one, is a little bit of an inconvenience here.

Colors mini series verdict: If you’ve got an hour to spare and would like to invest it on a cute love story, give Colors a dekko.
