Mothevari Love Story Review: Anil Geela's series takes a slow start that grows into a decent watch

Mothevari Love Story is set in a small town in Telangana. Parshi (Anil Geela) is madly in love with Anitha and decides to elope with her. When the plan fails, a new twist arises in the form of a land dispute, in which Parshi and the village heads are involved. Did Parshi manage to marry Anitha? Mothevari Love Story is written by Shiva Krishna Burra, who is known for his hit YouTube videos. Anil Geela, the noted YouTuber, makes his debut as a hero with this Zee5 series set in rural Telangana. To date, Anil Geela and his team have been making content for YouTube, and for the first time, they have gone big and created a comedy for Zee5.  

While the plot of Mothevari Love Story is interesting, the narration is not up to the mark. While the comedy and rural setting are cool, there is no emotional depth in the series as the character arcs are not developed properly. As the makers wanted to showcase the proceedings on a fun note, things get loud at times. 

Also, the series takes its time to grow on you, but once the main plot is established, there is decent comedy that keeps you glued. One needs to understand the situation and not keep too many expectations on performances and emotions, and just go with the flow. 

Once you do this, the latter parts of the show become interesting. As this is the first-ever big series for Shiva Krishna, his inexperience clearly shows in the first three episodes. The mentalities of small-town people, how two brothers fight for property, and how fun is generated through them are highlighted in the show. 

The makers have kept things light and do not tend towards too much drama. Once the show crosses the third episode, things get interesting and have situational comedy. The basic intent is good, and the lighthearted fun lands well. 

By the end, the characters stay with you as director Shiva ends the show on a very interesting note. All the loopholes that exist in the beginning are covered properly. The best part of the show is the chemistry between the lead pair of Parshi and Anitha. They share a unique bond as the hero loves the girl, and she, too, likes him, but is scared to express it openly. When tense situations come, the way she flips all of a sudden is showcased in a funny manner. 

Muralidhar Goud and the banter with his brother are good in the latter parts of the show. The land dispute and the suspense built around it look silly during the initial episodes, but the way it gets a proper closure is neat. 

Coming to the performances, Varshini Reddy plays the female lead and is shown as a village girl who is smitten by social media. She is an apt choice for her role and does well in the series. 

Anil Geela makes an impressive debut and is good as Parshi. His cheeky behaviour, self-deprecating jokes, and the way he emotes in comedy scenes are pretty good. Be it the screen presence or his body language, Anil does well and is the mainstay of the show. 

Muralidhar Goud is getting better with each passing film of his and is amazing in the series. The way he showcases the greedy emotion for money looks nice and brings depth to the show. Junnuthula, who plays a key role, is quite good. The rest of the casting is decent. 

Charan Arjun has composed the music, and the songs he has scored are very good and do not disturb the flow. The production design needs a special mention as the village backdrops are showcased superbly. The camerawork is amazing as it superbly captures the visuals with a fresh appeal. 

Mothevari Love Story is a small attempt from the gang of Anil Geela, who used to make content for YouTube. They banked on their strengths, which are the earthy characters and situational comedy, and this aspect is showcased well in the series. The screenplay is convenient and has its issues, but once you adjust to the pace, things look fine and end as a decent watch. 

Mothevari Love Story Verdict 

On the whole, Mothevari Love Story is a rustic village drama that has situational comedy. The plot is good and the love story is funny. Though it takes time to grow on you, once it does, the seven-episode series makes for a time-pass watch this weekend.
