The first episode of Pettaikaali had set the right mood for a riveting rural drama set against the backdrop of jallikattu. The ego clash between Selvasekharan (Vela Ramamoorthy) and Pandi (Kalaiyarasan) which was established in it has been escalated with a couple of engaging sequences this time.

Selva, who is upset about Pandi's unexpected win over his bull in the sport, sends his henchmen to teach the latter a lesson. What made him furious is the manner in which Pandi arrogantly slapped his thighs to provoke Selva. Sensing the issue that is likely to happen between the two castes, Pandi's uncle Muthayya (Kishore) asks him to apologize to Selva.

However, what unfolds in the second episode, titled Valvinayum Vanjapperum Pagaiyum, is a series of unanticipated events. Stunner Sam's intriguing and realistic action scene, featuring Kalaiyarasan and others, is a treat to watch. The sequence that follows showcasing an infuriated Selva is aptly conceived.

The scenes between Kishore and Kalai provide the required emotional connect, but the unexpected demise of one of the crucial characters is a huge let down. Though the makers might have other plans to elevate the revenge-driven plot, the decision to reveal the loss of a significant character wasn't a good idea.

Vela Ramamoorthy scores more when compared to others in this episode. The various facets of an egoist who gets dejected owing to several reasons has been depicted flawlessly by the actor. Veerasekaran (Bala Hasan), the heir to Selvasekaran, is expected to helm the affairs in his house after a twist.

The compelling background score by Santhosh Narayanan and effective visuals by Velraj are other highlights of the sophomore episode. It looks like the following episodes will touch upon a possible clash between Veera and Muthayya.

Pettaikaali is streaming on aha Tamil.
