Purushothamudu Review: Raj Tharun's film has nothing new, but the emotions keep you hooked

Purushothamudu Review: The film reminds you of Mahesh Babu's Srimanthudu and several other coming-of-age films. But the way it has been presented holds your attention.

Purushothmudu Movie Review

Purushothmudu story

Rachit Ram (Raj Tharun) returns to India after completing his studies abroad. Upon his return, Ram's father (Murali Sharma) decides to make him the CEO of his company. When things seem to be going fine, Ram's aunt (Ramya Krishna) reminds everyone that in order to become CEO, Ram has to go into exile. Left with no choice, Ram heads to a small village in the Rajahmundry region, gets entangled in village politics and makes new enemies. If this is not enough, Ram's aunt also sends goons to finish him off. How does Ram handle all this and end up becoming CEO is the rest of the story.

Purushothmudu review

Purushothmudu has a simple backdrop. A rich guy coming back to India to find his roots has been showcased in many films to date and the same is dealt with in Purushothamudu as well. But the difference here is the narrative and drama that have been executed in an engaging manner. Director Ram Bheema has written his script in such a way that there are a lot of subplots and scenes that create tension in the narrative.

The romantic track between the lead pair has been handled in a good way and evokes some fun. But the sad part is that there is no major conflict in the film. But the presence of A-listers like Raj Tharun, Murali Sharma, and Ramya Krishna makes the movie watchable. The first half of the film is filled with comedy and some family entertainment scenes.

In the second half, the actual story, twists, and drama are showcased in a good way. There is nothing special in the story, but the manner in which director Ram narrates the scene looks interesting. But one also gets the feeling that the main villain should have been elevated in a better manner. The second half also has a lot of issues, as there is no twist and this makes things predictable for the audience. But as the drama is good, things look breezy.

In terms of performances, Raj Tharun gets a tailor-made role to showcase his talent. He, as a rich young man who is fighting against the corrupt system and his own enemies in his family, has done a great job.

The actor has been in the news for a police case and skipped the promotion for the film. But all this does not affect the film, as he has given a good performance. All his emotional scenes in the village have been executed well.

Murali Sharma once again shines in a key role and creates an impact. Ramya Krishna is seen in a brief role and brings a lot of depth to the proceedings. Hasini Sudheer makes an impressive debut as Ammu and does her role convincingly. Her screen presence is also neat. Prakash Raj also does a good job. Mukesh Khanna is given a crucial role and he performed to the best of his abilities.

When it comes to the technical aspects, the production value of the film is quite impressive. The camerawork is especially good. The manner in which the village visuals have been showcased is quite impressive. Also, the fights are nice. Raj Tharu has some solid mass moments and he has handled them well.

The editing of the film could have been a tad better, especially in the second half. Close to 10 minutes of the film should have been chopped off to make it better. Gopi Sundar has composed the music, and two songs are very good. But it is his background score that requires a special mention, as it is not loud and is composed in a subtle and impressive manner.

Parushothamudu has a predictable premise, a few loose ends and continuity issues, but the scenes related to redemption and the emotions attached to them hold your attention till the end.

Parushothamudu verdict

On the whole, Parushothamudu is a coming-of-age drama that treads a familiar path and is slow in a few areas. But the redemption scenes, impressive performances, and dramatic scenes hold your attention.
