Story: A middle age couple is having a gala time at their housewarming ceremony along with their close relatives and two children. After an exhausting day, they crave for some cozy time, but the husband and wife have to cross various hurdles for it.
Review: There has been palpable excitement among movie lovers when the third season of two-decades-old popular sit-com Ramany vs Ramany was announced as a direct-to-OTT release. Their happiness knows no bounds when the makers announced that one episode will be unveiled every week on the newly launched platform aha Tamil.
The third season brings together Ramji and Vasuki, who was seen playing one of the lead roles in second and first season respectively. Interestingly, Naga who was at the helm of both the seasons, has come on board two direct the third instalment, Ramany vs Ramany 3.0 after 20 years.
The first episode, titled Grahapravesham, begins with Ramany (Vasuki) and Ramany (Ramji) seen elated at their housewarming ceremony which is attended by their close relatives, including their parent-in-laws. After the day's tiring works, the middle age couple, who are still romantically inclined to each other, yearns for some intimate moments.
But little did they know that they have to go through a lot of hardships to get physically close with each other in the newly built house despite the big building having many rooms. The confusion among relatives regarding choosing their respective sleeping rooms plays spoilsport in their lovemaking plans.
As if this isn't enough, their school-going son is hell-bent on sleeping with his parents. Will Ramany and Ramany be able to make out despite their family members being present everywhere in the house?
What works in this episode is the chemistry between Ramji and Vasuki. Both of them are apt in the roles of middle age, yet loving couple who still are romantic by all means. Their spontaneous expressions and one-liners are funny, keeping the viewers hooked. The relatability factor is another aspect which makes the episode a passable fare.
On the downside, the other characters aren't very impressive with their performances. They put up an okayish show and their parts are underwritten. There is nothing to boast about its technical aspects as well. In fact, the making style could have been more appealing.
The plot, too, isn't quite innovative. The improvisation of the idea is not-so-bad. What makes it enjoyable is the convincing performances from the lead actors. However, the season has just commenced, and we know it is too early to judge the third instalment. All said and done, the director has managed to keep the curiosity factor alive for the next episode.
Verdict: With a few laughs here and there, the first episode is a passable fare.
Ramany vs Ramany 3.0 is streaming on aha Tamil.
