Story: A happy-go-lucky youngster takes a vow to revamp his grandfather's weaving business after he faces insult from his girlfriend's parents. He decides to come up in life through hard work and earn a name for himself and his family. But will he be able to pull it off?

Review: Hip Hop Adhi's films are known for the seemingly fun elements in the stories. From his debut flick, Meesaya Murukku, to his last outing, Naan Sirithal, there are ample moments you can enjoy, though some of them are devoid of logic. With Sivakumarin Sabadham, the music director-turned-actor has donned the director's hat.

Quite naturally, one expects more fun elements and peppy songs in it apart from an entertaining screenplay that caters to all section of audience, though his target audience has always been youngsters. However, the film is a colossal disappointment, to say the least.

However, he is no more leading life in a prosperous manner as he quit his business a while ago. After his son leaving Kanchipuram at a younger age, Varadharajan has pinned hopes on Siva.

But Siva is a happy-go-lucky guy who has no plans about his future. But his life starts changing ever since Sruthi (Madhuri Jain) enters his life. After facing insults from her parents for being underemployed, a determined Siva decides to earn a name for himself by revamping their weaving business.

The film, which is a supposedly fun family drama, for most of its parts, leaves us confused as to whether it is a spoof movie. The characterization of Elango and his performance is the prime positive aspect of the film. He excels in emotional scenes and his chemistry with others on screen is effective.

Adhi does what he does in his previous outings. His performance and body language are loud and over-the-top in many scenes, and his combination with Adithya Kathir isn't funny as they expect it to be. The one-liners and comedy scenes fall flat.

The female lead, Madhuri, has nothing much to do, like a few other characters in the film. The emotional scenes lack depth are they are dealt in a silly manner. The much-hyped addition of Prankster Rahul in the cast is a big misfire. His antics and dialogue delivery leaves no impact.

The cinematography by Arjunraja is neat while none of the songs composed by Adhi leave a mark. A mish-mash of several family dramas in the past, Sivakumarin Sabadham leaves you exhausted before an hour into it, thanks to the boring screenplay and staged performances by most of the actors. The last 20 minutes of the movie is comparatively better because of some interesting proceedings which hook us. But it is quite an arduous task to sit through the film till then.

Verdict: With hardly any major positive aspect worth mentioning, the film tests patience after the lead characters are introduced. Skip it!

Sivakumarin Sabadham is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
