Indian test captain Shubman Gill equalled the record of Sir Don Bradman and Sunil Gavaskar with his fourth ton of the ongoing England vs India test series. Gill, who scored his 4th test ton of his captaincy career on the final day of the ENG vs IND, 4th test in Manchester, had equalled the record for the most test tons in a series as a captain.

Shubman Gill's four tons in ENG vs IND series

Shubman Gill started his captaincy career on a great note with a 147 in Leeds in the first inning. He then went on to score a 269 in Birmingham, to break the record for the highest test score by an Indian captain. But, in the second inning, he broke multiple records with his 169 and became the first player ever to score 250 and 150 in a test match.

Although he could not contribute much in the Lord's test, Shubman Gill came back to form with a stunning ton in Manchester. With a single against Chris Woakes, Gill reached his 9th test ton and 4th as the captain.

Don Bradman - India tour of Australia 1947/48

Don Bradman was the first player ever to score four test tons in a series as a captain. During the India tour of 1947/48, Bradman scored 715 runs in just 6 innings, at an average of 178.75.

Bradman scored 185 in Brisbane, 132 and 127 in Melbourne and then went on to score 201 in Adelaide.

Sunil Gavaskar - West Indies tour of India 1978/79

In the 1978/79 home series against West Indies, Sunil Gavaskar scored 732 runs, which is still the most by any Indian captain in a series. Gavaskar started with a 205 in Mumbai. Then he scored 107 and 182 in Kolkata in the third test of the series, and in the fifth test in Delhi, he scored 120 in the first inning.

Shubman Gill became the latest player to score 4 test tons in a single series as a captain. In his first series as a captain, Gill etched the record.

He started with a 147 in Leeds and then scored 269 & 169 in the Birmingham test. His fourth century came in the second inning of the Manchester test when he scored 103 off 238 balls.
