India, which won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, somehow spread the format more than any other nation in cricket history. From MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, to modern superstars like Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Yuzvendra Chahal, India has produced a few of the greatest T20I stars.

But choosing the greatest T20I XI of India is not an easy task. Grok, a generative artificial intelligence chatbot developed by xAI, has given its choice for the greatest Indian T20I lineup.

Greatest T20I XI of India by Grok

Openers: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

I do not think there should be any hesitation in that. Virat Kohli, the greatest white-ball cricketer of modern era, along with Rohit Sharma, the batter who retired with the most runs in T20I history, should be India’s openers in T20I format in any condition.

Kohli scored 4188 T20I runs with an average of 48.69, while Rohit scored 4231 runs with a strike-rate of 140.89, including five T20I tons as well. Rohit had the immense skill to hit any bowler out of the park, while Kohli’s finishing skill was one of the best ever.

Number 3: Suryakumar Yadav

Another automatic choice. Since his debut in 2021, Suryakumar Yadav has already scored 2598 T20I runs, with an average of 38.20, while his strike-rate is 167.07, the best among any batter with more than 2000 T20I runs.

Surya’s incredible ability to hit sixes against pace and spin makes him one of the lethal batters going around. He can also take the game long; his four T20I tons in 83 matches a proof of that.

Number 4: KL Rahul

Grok has gone for someone who can give India the stability and flexibility at No.4.

Rahul is someone who can build the innings if the team loses some quick wickets upfront, and also can attack if the start has been good.

Till now in 72 T20I matches, Rahul has scored 2265 runs at an average of 37.75 with a strike-rate of 139.12 with 2 T20I tons against his name.

Number 5: MS Dhoni (c&wk)

Another obvious choice.

Although MS Dhoni’s T20I record for India is not as great as his T20 record, his captaincy and finishing skills are a no-brainer while choosing the greatest T20I XI of India.

The man who led India to the historic 2007 T20 World Cup, which led to the start of the Indian Premier League and then the modernization of Indian cricket, will be the captain of the side.

Number 6: Yuvraj Singh

Now we are going to the all-rounders. Who can forget the six sixes hit by Yuvraj Singh against England in the 2007 T20 World Cup, which is considered one of the greatest moments in cricket history!

Yuvraj Singh at number six would give the team the flow and finish, while his golden arm can give the team a few overs whenever needed as well. Yuvi finished with 1177 T20I runs with an average of 28.02 and a strike rate of 136.38.

He also took 28 wickets in 58 T20I games for India.

Number 7: Hardik Pandya

Again, a no-brainer. Hardik Pandya would go into any T20 or T20I team in the world.

He is the greatest white-ball pacer-all-rounder India has seen since Kapil Dev, and his presence down the order for India is just a blessing.

Hardik can also come up the batting order if the team needs, and can also finish the inning with his ability to hit sixes and boundaries. His strike rate of 141.67 in T20Is is proof of that.

Hardik, who came into the team as a bowling all-rounder, can give you four overs as well. His ability to bowl with the new ball and at the death is an added advantage for any team; remember the T20 World Cup 2024, where he bowled the final over to take India home.

Number 8: Ravindra Jadeja

Although number 8 is a bit low for his batting ability but Ravindra Jadeja’s all-rounder skill would come handy if the pitch offers some spin.

Moreover, his presence lengthens the batting order as well. Jadeja, as a fielder, is also an automatic choice in the playing XI.

Bowlers: Bumrah, Chahal, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar

This is perhaps the best bowling lineup India can have in a T20I game.

Bhuvnewshwar Kumar, who once was India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is, has the ability to swing the new ball and bowl perfect yorkers at the death. His partner Jasprit Bumrah does not need any introduction, with many pundits naming him one of the best pacers India has ever produced.

Meantime, Yuzvendra Chahal’s trickery and ability to take in the middle overs will be crucial as well.

Bench

Grok has named left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, who is India’s leading wicket-taker in T20I cricket, and Kuldeep Yadav, the left-arm wrist spinner, as the 13th and 14th players of the team.
