Luck didn’t favour India during the first match of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy when the team spilled six catches to lose the match that they dominated for large parts of the game. The rub of luck was still missing at Birmingham for the second match, when England captain Ben Stoken won the toss and put Shubman Gill’s team to bat.

Stokes, who has always been comfortable batting last in the test match and their fourth innings record in the past few years bear testament to that, said it was good conditions to bowl and that the bowlers did a pretty good job in the first match for his team.

Stuart Broad says India should control the game

His decision, however, didn’t come as a surprise to many who have followed their ‘Bazball’ style of cricket and especially with the team having chased down record targets of 370+ runs in their recent matches against the Indian team in England.

However, England bowling legend Stuart Broad was of the opinion that it “wasn’t a bad toss for India to lose”. During the pre-match commentary, the cricketer said that India should now just look at putting runs on board and “control the game”. And it’s not impossible because the team had five centuries in the Leeds’ test. Broad also picked KL Rahul to weather the pitch and England bowling because of his technique, and put up another good innings for the sake of his team.

Another cause for concern in the team would be that India’s frontline bowler Jasprit Bumrah is not in the final XI for the match, with the team making three changes. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Akash Deep and Washington Sundar come in, instead of Sai Sudharshan, Bumrah and Shardul Thakur. Many also expressed surprise that the team decided to leave out spinner Kuldeep Yadav again.

When and where to watch Ind vs Eng 2nd test match?

The second test will give new captain Shubman another shot at earning their first points in the World Test Championship cycle, and also draw level with England.
