India is set to face the West Indies in a thrilling three-match ODI series at two different venues. The action will kick off at the iconic Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on July 27 where the two sides will play the 1st ODI.
The Indian team will be high on spirits having secured a 1-0 victory in the recent two-match Test series. The Men in Blue will be under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, while Hardik Pandya has been assigned the role of deputy. The squad has seen the inclusion of Mukesh Kumar, the uncapped Bengal player, who made an impressive Test debut with match figures of 2-53 at Port of Spain.
Virat Kohli's astonishing record of 2,261 runs against the West Indies, at an impressive average of 66.50 and a strike rate of 97, stands as the highest individual tally by any player against them. No other batsman has managed to cross the 2,000-run mark against the Windies. Kohli's remarkable feat also includes nine centuries against them.
As for the host, they have decided to recall Shimron Hetmyer from the squad. The 26-year-old last represented the West Indies in the ODI format back in 2021. Additionally, Oshane Thomas makes a comeback to the ODI setup after a hiatus since January 2020. However, both Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder have been unavailable for selection.
