Smriti Mandhana has etched her name in cricket history by becoming the first woman cricketer to score more than 1,000 runs in Women’s One Day Internationals (WODIs) in a single calendar year. She went past the long-standing record held by Australian legend Belinda Clark.
Mandhana creates history
Before the India Women vs Australia Women match in ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 match in Vizag, Smriti Mandhana needed 18 runs to break the record and create history.
After India were sent to bat first by Australia, Smriti started slowly but then started capitalising against the spin bowling of the defending champions.
Mandhana goes past Clark’s record
Belinda Clark’s record of 1997 stood as a high benchmark in women’s cricket for over two decades. Clark, who had set the record during a time when women’s cricket received far less visibility, had scored exactly 970 runs in 1997.
With Mandhana now going past the 1000 runs in 2025 in WODIs, she has become the first player ever in Women’s ODIs to score more than 1000 runs in a calendar year.
Mandhana’s stunning 2025 in WODIs
In 18 matches so far in 2025, Mandhana now has 1019 runs and counting and has a batting average of nearly 60 with the bat. Not only that, she also has a strike rate over 100 in the WODIs in 2025. Along with that, the stylish left-handed opener has already scored 4 WODI tons in this calendar year.
