In Match 39 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced defeat at their den against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as all-rounder Marcus Stoinis' unbeaten 124 guided his side to victory at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. 

This marks a historic run-chase at Chepauk, propelling LSG to the 4th spot and displacing CSK to 5th in the points table. They have now secured a double victory over CSK this season, previously defeating them at the Ekana Sports Stadium just days back.

The entire credit goes to Stoinis, who had to come in early following the departures of Quinton de Kock (0 off 3), skipper KL Rahul (16 off 14), and Devdutt Padikkal (13 off 19). Stoinis, who smashed 13 fours and 6 sixes, formed partnerships first with Nicholas Pooran (34 off 15) and later with Deepak Hooda, who remained unbeaten on 17 off 6. Among the CSK bowlers, Matheesha Pathirana claimed two wickets, while Deepak Chahar and Mustafizur Rahman took one each.

Shivam Dube also played a commendable innings, contributing 66 runs off 27 balls. MS Dhoni, too, came to the crease and faced just one ball, scoring 4 runs. For LSG, Matt Henry, Mohsin Khan, and Yash Thakur took one wicket each.
