Match 40 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT), started with a bang, with Jake Fraser-McGurk and Prithvi Shaw attempting to smash every ball. However, GT bowler Sandeep Warrier soon attacked and sent back both openers in the same over. However, the wicket of Shaw has sparked a debate on social media.

In the 3.5th over, Warrier delivered a short-pitched ball, causing Shaw to be slightly cramped for room on the pull. However, he swiftly adjusted and executed the shot. The ball seemed to land in front of Noor Ahmad, but the fielder sprinted in, dove sideways, and ensured he had his fingers under it. While it was a remarkable diving catch by Noor, the question lingered: was it a clean catch? The fielder appeared confident as the third umpire reviewed the footage. Umpire Akshay Totre examined the side angle and was content that the right hand was underneath the ball, confirming Shaw's dismissal.

However, fans online seemed unsatisfied with this decision, as they took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their discontent with the umpiring this year.

As for the clash, Jake Fraser-McGurk departed first for 23 off 14, while Prithvi Shaw followed for 11 off 7. After 5 overs, DC has scored 43 runs and lost two wickets. However, as of writing this article, Shai Hope too walked back for 5 off 6, courtesy of Warrier's bowling who has now taken 3 wickets in the Powerplay. Axar Patel has been sent up the order after the first wicket fell and David Warner is not part of this game.
