After five wickets fell at the Eden Gardens, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) managed to maintain some control of the game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). However, runs continued to flow in Match 36 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, with KKR captain Shreyas Iyer at the helm. He played a captain's knock, scoring his 50 in 36 balls, but did not stay till the end, as Cameron Green soon dismissed him.

The RCB pacer bowled a full delivery outside off, and Shreyas Iyer attempted a lofted shot. However, Faf du Plessis got across and dived to his right to take the catch. Shreyas could not believe it and walked back for 50(36) [4s-7 6s-1]. Iyer's performance and subsequent departure got netizens talking. While some praised the batter for leading from the front, others began criticizing his strike rate on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Despite losing wickets, KKR scored 75 runs in the Powerplay. As of writing this article, KKR has scored 222 runs and lost 6 wickets in 20 overs. Philip Salt (48 off 14) provided a good start for KKR, while Sunil Narine (10 off 15), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (3 off 4), Venkatesh Iyer (16 off 8), and Rinku Singh (24 off 16) fell at regular intervals. Andre Russell (27 off 20) and Ramandeep Singh (24 off 9) played excellent cameos towards the end to push the total score past 220.

For RCB, Yash Dayal and Cameron Green took two wickets each, while Lockie Ferguson and Mohammed Siraj have one wicket each to their name.
