The day has finally arrived where New Zealand will take on India in the tenth edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 final on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The tournament has reached its final stage and both teams are done with their preparations. It's showtime now.
Ahead of the game, the Kiwis skipper Mitchell Santner urged the fans to back the team since they are 'outnumbered' in India. New Zealand posted a picture on social media where Santner is asking for them to watch the match from back home. The Ahmedabad stadium will be filled with Indian fans but the Kiwis deserve their fans as well. Santner believes that the fans will support them from back home.
“Although you're not with us - we see the photos, the posts, we hear the stories, and we know about the late nights & early starts. We feel your aroha. We get it the final is super early Monday morning," said Santner.
"But set your alarm and get around us one more time. And if you're bit late to work or school, please pass on my message to your boss or teachers. Cheers Aotearoa we'll be home soon hopefully with some extra luggage," he added.
Despite being the tenth edition of the Word Cup, New Zealand have never won the trophy yet. They have a brilliant opportunity to play good cricket and beat India in their own home ground to win the title and script history. The game is surely not going to be an easy one since they are playing against one of the best sides in the world. But, if they stick to the basics and try to go after Jasprit Bumrah and not throw away wickets, they can outplay India.
New Zealand batters wreaked havoc in the semi-final 1 against England and the same will be expected from them in the upcoming match as well. This is the time where they can avenge their Champions Trophy 2025 defeat against India.
