He also has the record of playing in the most semi-finals at the US Open, with 14 appearances in the final four of the tournament.

#2 Pete Sampras | 5 titles

One of the most iconic and dominating American male tennis players of all time, Pete ‘Pistol’ Sampars won five US Open titles as well.

The 14-time Grand Slam winner played in 8 finals at the US Open and won five of them. He won the title in 1990, 1993, 1995, 1996, and 2002. His rivalry with Andre Agassi was one of the most legendary rivalries in tennis history. In fact, Pete defeated Agassi to win the 2002 US Open.

If anyone has continued the legacy, style, and dominance of Pete Sampras, it was Roger Federer. The Swiss star, who was the first male tennis player to win 20 Grand Slam titles, won the US Open five times as well.

Federer played in 19 seasons at the US Open and participated in seven finals, while winning five of them.

From 2004 to 2008, Roger won back-to-back five US Open titles, a record that is still to be matched by any player. He last played his US Open final in 2015, in which Novak Djokovic beat him in 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

#4 John McEnroe | 4 titles

John McEnroe’s name is forever linked with the US Open, where he captured four titles between 1979 and 1984. McEnroe’s artistry on the court and fiery personality made him one of the sport’s most captivating figures.

McEnroe’s rivalry with Bjorn Borg and other top players of his era created some of the most dramatic and intense moments in tennis history. Four out of his seven Grand Slams came at the US Open in 1979, 1980, 1981, and 1984.

He lost only the final at the US Open in 1985 against Ivan Lendl.
