In a game that defied logic and swung like a pendulum, Punjab pulled off a miraculous one-run victory over a star-studded Mumbai side at the Jaipuria Vidhyalaya Ground. Despite a historic, record-breaking blitz from Sarfaraz Khan, a dramatic lower-order collapse triggered by Mayank Markande and Gurnoor Brar saw Mumbai fall agonizingly short of their 217-run target.
After being put into bat, Punjab’s top order crumbled against Mumbai’s disciplined opening burst. Onkar Tarmale removed the dangerous opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh early, leaving Punjab reeling at 25/3.
The rescue mission was led by Anmolpreet Singh (57) and Ramandeep Singh (72). The pair stitched together a vital 85-run stand that breathed life into the innings.
Ramandeep was particularly aggressive, striking three sixes in his 74-ball stay. However, once Musheer Khan (3/37) broke the partnership, the Punjab tail struggled to wag, eventually being bundled out for 216 in 45.1 overs.

Mumbai’s chase began steadily, but the atmosphere shifted the moment Sarfaraz Khan walked to the crease. What followed was a display of hitting that will be etched in the history of Indian List A cricket.
Sarfaraz smashed a 15-ball half-century, the fastest ever by an Indian in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He treated the Punjab spinners with disdain, famously looting 30 runs in a single over from India international Abhishek Sharma (6, 4, 6, 4, 6, 4).
By the time Sarfaraz was trapped LBW by Markande for a 20-ball 62, he had catapulted Mumbai to 139/3 in less than 15 overs, making the 217-run target look like a mere formality.
With skipper Shreyas Iyer (45) and Suryakumar Yadav at the crease, Mumbai needed just 48 runs with seven wickets in hand. However, the introduction of leg-spinner Mayank Markande turned the match on its head.
Markande first removed the set Shreyas Iyer, before Gurnoor Brar (4/57) ripped through the middle order, dismissing Surya and Shivam Dube in quick succession.
With Mumbai needing just four runs to win and two wickets remaining, the tension was palpable. Markande, showing nerves of steel, dismissed Shashank Attarde and Onkar Tarmale on consecutive deliveries to bowl Mumbai out for 215.
