Wimbledon 2025 will have a new women’s singles champion. Defending champion Barbora Krejcikova fell to Emma Navarro on July 5, despite winning the first set, paving the way for one of the 16 remaining contestants to get their name embossed at the Club on July 12. Emma Navarro, who lost to last year’s eventual runner-up Jasmine Paolini ended Krejcikova’s title defence, making her the only one from 2024’s Round of 4 contestants to make it to that stage yet again.

So, what do we have in store in the women’s Round of 16? Well, on July 6, there’s Solano Sierra, who’s never before made it past the first round of a Grand Slam; Laura Siegemund, who’s best was a quarter-final appearance in Roland Garros 5 years ago; Sonay Kartal, a first-timer at this stage of a Slam; Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who’s made it to the quarter-finals of all four slams but never beyond.

Linda Noskova, who made it to the quarter-final in Australia in 2024; Amanda Anisimova, who’s career best at a Slam is the 2022 quarter-final appearance in Wimbledon; Elise Mertens, a former Australian Open semi-finalist and, of course, World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka, who’s never won at Roland Garros or Wimbledon and lost in both the Australian and French Open finals this year. In fact, at Wimbledon, Sabalenka has not made it past the semi-final stage yet. Will this be her year?
