Lovestruck: A Walk to Remember is a sweet romantic film that will make you believe in true love
Directed by Adam Shankman, the 2002 movie stars Shane West, Mandy Moore, Lauren German and Daryl Hannah
One of the epic romances, I would say, is of Jamie and Landon in the film A Walk To Remember. The 2002 film, directed by Adam Shankman, stars Shane West, Mandy Moore, Lauren German and Daryl Hannah. The romantic film is based on Nicholas Spark's book and is said to be based on true events. It is based on the love story of Spark's sister. She was diagnosed with cancer and got married to her boyfriend before her death. She is said to have passed away a year before the shooting for the film began. The film recently celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. The film is about two teenagers - a responsible student Jamie (Moore) with strong values and a frivolous and a local rebel, Landon (West) - who fall in love. Landon learns that Jamie has been diagnosed with cancer and is at the end stage of the deadly disease. He proposes to her knowing that he cannot spend the rest of his life with her, probably a couple of days. They get married and a few days later, she passes away. The innocence of the two characters and the genuine and unconditional love they have for each other will get even the cold hearts, teary-eyed. The actor Moore celebrated 20 years of the film by watching it again. She had posted on Instagram and admitted that it's been very long since she watched the film. She can be seen settling on her couch with a box of tissue paper, which is of course needed, considering how emotional the film is.The dialogues of the film are so beautiful that even an aromantic will start believing in true love. When Jamie agrees to help Landon with his lines for the play, she tells him, "You have to promise you won't fall in love with me." Landon, who was pretty confident that he wouldn't fall for her, accepts and says that's not even a problem. The scene only foreshadows the romance that is to come. One of the favourite scenes is when Landon takes Jamie out on a date and fulfils her wish of being at two places at once. He rides to a state border with her and asks her to keep one foot on one side and the other a few inches away and tells her that now she is at two places at once. Jamie feels so happy that she jumps into his arms and you will go aww... Their first kiss is also well-written. Jamie appears nervous about kissing Landon. When he says he is going to kiss her, she says she might be just bad at it. Landon does not believe it and says, "That's not possible."The film is not cheesy and perhaps, that's the reason why I like the movie too. It is just cute and indeed magical to see the two so in love. One of the best scenes is Landon realising the importance of his life and while his mother tells him that she doesn't think he has it in him to go to a medical school, Landon replies, "Jamie has faith in me. She makes me want to be different. Better." If this doesn't get you emotional, all wiping your little tears with tissues, not sure what will. After Jamie's death, one would expect it to end on a sad and tragic note. But the climax instead presents a positive outlook of how Landon moves on in his life and gets admitted to a medical school. He is seen coming back to Jamie's house and remembering those fond memories, he shared with her. He comes back to her father, who despises him, to comfort and console him. The two learn a thing or two from each other. The coming-of-age drama is an overwhelming emotional film that will leave you gasping for breath. So make sure to fetch a box of tissues before you cuddle on your couch to watch the drama. The film is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.Share
