Aadhi Pinisetty about his new web series Mayasabha

What made you say yes to Mayasabha?

Firstly, it was Deva Katta, the director. I’ve been a huge fan of his Prasthanam and always felt I should team up with him at least once in my career. The moment I was offered the show, I was quite thrilled. After hearing the story, I was even more excited to play such a powerful role that gave me ample scope to showcase my talent as an actor.

Tell us about your preparation to play Naidu in Mayasabha.

Speaking in the Rayalaseema dialect was never an issue for me, but the stammering part was quite difficult—it took me a while to get used to it. I watched a lot of political videos and closely followed the body language of the person I’m portraying in the series. I never tried to imitate anyone and gave the character my own spin. You’ll see me age throughout the series, and I believe the final portions are where I delivered my best performance.

What was your reaction when you learned that a young actor like Chaitanya Rao was playing your opposition?

Frankly, I was surprised when Deva Garu cast a relatively new actor like Chaitanya Rao. But since I know Chaitu personally, I felt he would do a great job. After seeing a few rushes and watching him in character, I believe no one else could have played Rami Reddy better. All I can say is that Chaitu will be the surprise package of the series.

Mayasabha is about two strong political parties with a lot of history. Are sides being taken?

We haven’t taken any real names. Mayasabha is a fictional series about two powerful politicians who changed the course of Telugu politics. Since the show is purely a fictional narrative, we are not taking any sides. I know there will be many comments and comparisons once the series is released, but I hope we don't disappoint anyone.

What’s your take on such a political subject being made into a web series?

From the moment I heard the script, I wanted the story to be made into a film. Initially, Deva wrote Mayasabha as a feature film. But because the content was so rich and had so much depth, Deva felt it would be perfect for OTT.

What was it like working with Deva Katta?

It was a dream come true to work with Deva Katta. The way he develops characters by giving them deep emotional arcs is the best part of his storytelling. He focuses heavily on emotions while balancing the hype and drama. We had extensive script reading sessions that lasted up to eight hours daily. His inputs and constant support throughout the shoot are things I’ll never forget.

How confident are you about Mayasabha’s success?

Deva Katta is known for his intense drama and his ability to guide actors through scenes. I believe that, with such a strong cast, the audience will witness some authentic performances. The series is planned to span multiple seasons, and the way the two political leaders from Andhra Pradesh dominated the landscape is portrayed in a gripping manner. It’s a show that viewers from any part of the world can enjoy on Sony LIV and OTTplay Premium.
