Bengaluru girl Rachel David is mighty chuffed with the response to her debut Kannada film, Love Mocktail 2 , the Darling Krishna directorial, in which she played Sihi, one of the leads. As a potential romantic interest of Krishna’s character Adi, Sihi was one of the most noteworthy roles in the film, garnering Rachel widespread love and recognition. “Whenever I can, I join the team on theatre visits and the response has been phenomenal. Even on social media, I see a marked change in my following, all thanks to Love Mocktail 2. Prior to the release, I was not at liberty to speak about my role, but now that audiences have seen it, they have been showing their appreciation, which is quite the confidence booster,” says the actress, who is currently in Aluva, to attend workshops for an upcoming Malayalam film. “Truth be told, the welcome I got for Love Mocktail 2 came to me as a surprise. I didn’t think that I would get recognized for my work in such short time. I am humbled by all the love,” she adds.

Rachel, who was last seen in the Suresh Gopi starrer Kaaval in Malayalam is a part of the film ‘@’, a thriller about the dark web. The film is the debut of Akash Sen, the son of late writer-filmmaker Sachy, and is being directed by editor-turned-director Don Max. The film also has Sharanjith, Bibin Perumbilli, Nayana Elza, Sanjana Doss, Sujith Raj and Aradhya Laxman on the cast. We are all currently in workshops to prep for the film, before we actually go on floors,” she says.

The actress has also signed up for another Kannada film, a gangster subject called Country Made, in which she will be paired with Gantumoote and Tom & Jerry actor Nischith Korodi. “I had signed up for Country Made a few days before Love Mocktail 2 came out. The film will be officially launched on March 3. This is a gangster film that will be shot against the backdrop of Kolkata. Some portions of the film will be shot in North Karnataka and the rest in Kolkata. The sub text to the title is that the story goes from a dark side to a sweet city,” she explains. There is a third Kannada film that she is currently in talks for. “This is an offer that came to me after Love Mocktail 2 and we are in discussion to figure out my dates. Everything else seems positive about this project, so, an official announcement should happen soon,” she adds.

Meanwhile, Rachel’s Kollywood debut, Walking/Talking Strawberry Ice Cream, is nearing completion. “We still need to shoot a small portion and dub, after which we will be done with the film. Vignesh Shivan sir, who is backing the film, is busy with the production of a project with Nayanthara, Samantha and Vijay Sethupathi. Once that film is done, the team will look at finishing Walking/Talking Strawberry Ice Cream, which will then get a direct release on Netflix. I am quite excited about an OTT release, because the visibility one gets because of the platform’s reach is immense,” she signs off.
