Inspection Bungalow star Shabareesh Varma: 'A film like Premam might never come...'| Exclusive

The actor and lyricist discussed how a chance like Nivin Pauly-starrer Premam might not come again in his film career in an interview with OTTplay.

Shabareesh Varma, who rose to fame among Malayalis with his hits such as Neram and Premam, has made his OTT debut with Malayalam's first horror comedy web series, Inspection Bungalow. You can watch this series on OTTplay Premium and ZEE5. The actor and lyricist discussed how a chance like Premam might not come again in his film career in an interview with OTTplay.

'The satisfaction Premam gave me...'

Shabareesh highlighted how Alphonse Puthren-Nivin Pauly's Premam fulfilled him by exploring his true potential to a great extent. "It allowed me to discover the performer and songwriter in me, and it worked. People loved it in every way, including the music, storytelling style, and visual presentation". He added, "It was thrilling to write the songs in accordance with the protagonist's transition, but I'm not sure if such an opportunity would come in my career again." He claimed that writing the soundtrack 'Malare' was the most challenging task of his entire career.

The actor said that although he was an accidental lyricist, he had always been passionate about acting in movies. He disclosed, "I was not well-versed in methodical writing or have been a professional writer of some sort."

'One step at a time...'

The actor continued by stating that he does not have a flawless plan for how to approach films, adding that his career graph changed once he got more serious following the pandemic lockdown. He stated that the sole goal is to avoid becoming stereotyped or working in the same kind of films. Shabareesh said that at first, he stayed in his comfort zone and worked primarily in the films helmed by his friends.

"I got out of this comfort zone after lockdown. I would rather go one step at a time. He continued, "I don't rush myself to do multiple films at a time." The Sahasam actor is currently working on two or three Malayalam films that are yet to be annnounced officially.
