Lingusamy on directing The Warriorr; says it's a cop film with a difference

The Warriorr marks Ram Pothineni’s first bilingual film. The Lingusamy directorial also stars Krithi Shetty and Aadhi Pinisetty, in crucial roles.

According to director Lingusamy, his Tamil-Telugu bilingual The Warriorr, which hit the screens today, featuring Ram Pothineni in the lead role, would be a unique cop film. “Although The Warriorr is based on a true story, I did it in the commercial film format. This is one of the best works I've done in recent times after Run and Sandakozhi,” he adds.

Lingusamy says his intention was always to do this film in Tamil and Telugu. “It worked out well for us because Ram also wanted to make his Tamil debut.”

The filmmaker observes he didn't feel any difference in helming a film in another language because he has made several of his films in Telugu-speaking states. “After all, cinema is a universal language. The only emotions I felt were joy at having directed a Telugu film and a sense of duty because I wanted to convey it straight from my heart!”

On directing Ram Pothineni, Lingusamy says, even though the actor appears to be a trendy young man after he showed him the appearance he desired for the film, Ram completely altered himself for this role. “I was quite pleased by his commitment to bringing this character to life. He has boundless energy, a keen sense of timing, honesty, and speaks Tamil so well that he dubbed for himself. Also, he has a terrific script sense.”

Ram is equally thrilled to have worked with the filmmaker. “I believe the commercial formula developed by Lingusamy sir in the early 2000s is still used by commercial filmmakers in Tollywood today. When we announced that I would be making a film with Lingusamy sir, several renowned Telugu directors told me that many of his works had inspired them. They were overjoyed that I was working with him and wanted me to express their respect for him.”

Ram goes on to say that he had no reservations about having another actor play the villain. “It's all about teamwork. As a result, we took great effort into developing Aadhi's personality.”

“Although Ram was playing the lead, Aadhi was intrigued by the screenplay and agreed to come on board," Lingusamy states.

Bankrolled by Srinivasaa Chitturi and presented by Pavan Kumar under Srinivasaa Silver Screen, The Warriorr has music by Devi Sri Prasad.
