Mark actor Deepshikha: Did not have a dupe, sustained injuries, but it’s rare role that I enjoyed

Ahead of Mark’s Christmas release, actor Deepshikha talks about her Kannada debut, playing a strong role in a mass action film, learning new languages and more

Actor Deepshikha, who was seen in a supporting role in Tamil film Maargan, is part of the upcoming film Mark. Slated for Christmas release on December 25, the actor chats with OTTplay and shares her experience.

“This year was nothing less than magic, because I had Maargan in Tamil. It got released on June 27, the very same day I got called for Mark to come to the production office. I came here and the project was to begin very soon. Now, after a few months, we are here for the release once again,” says Deepshikha about Mark.

The actor talks about her character in the film and says, “It is one among the checklists, and I am very excited. Being a mass cinema lover, and to do a strong character in such a film makes me feel so excited.” Deepshikha makes her Kannada debut with Mark, and she says that she wants to learn the languages in the films she is working on. That is how she became fluent in Telugu and learnt Kannada in the process of shooting for Mark.

While it is a common notion that action thrillers seldom have a chunky role for women, especially if it is headlined by a star, Deepshikha says it’s not the case in Mark. “I think director Vijay Karthikeyaa and Sudeep sir are big-time real heroes on that front because they have given much importance to me, who is in the early stages of her career, and ready to take challenges. I am grateful for getting that opportunity,” she remarks.

Without revealing much, Deepshikha says that her character is ‘strong’ and that there was preparation that was needed to star in an action film. “Right from learning martial arts, and withstanding the physical tasks. I was also too confident and denied a dupe. I sustained some physical injuries, but I still enjoyed working in Mark. I know that I will get roles that are soft and feminine, but this kind of role comes once in a while,” she added while saying that Mark was physically exhausting but much rewarding.

Major lessons from Mark

Talking about how women in action roles are scarce, she says that overall, the cinema industry itself is experiencing tougher times. “Not many films are becoming successful. The monetisation of a film is important. From script to theatres, everything should work and be placed perfectly. Budgeting is important; the actor’s values and everything come into the decision-making,” she points out.

Asked about her biggest takeaway from Mark, Deepshikha says that dedication and discipline were her major lessons. “Kichcha Sudeepa sir, being a star actor, comes to the sets by 6am, which encourages us also to do the same. A director like Vijay Karthikeyaa is an easy person to work with, and it breaks the cliches of how it would be working in big films. Both of them gave space for us to perform and be how we are,” she adds.

Looking forward to 2026, Deepshikha says that scripts matter to her the most and looking forward to finding such stories.
