Narivetta director Anuraj Manohar on working with Cheran in Tovino Thomas-starrer | Exclusive

Cheran, who has helmed a number of classic Tamil films that have garnered widespread acclaim, may have been convinced to work on this project based alone on its plot, the director said.

Malayalam's latest film, Narivetta, is all set for its OTT debut on Sony LIV and OTTplay Premium on July 11 after a successful theatrical run of over 40 days. The movie, which is directed by Anuraj Manohar, stars Tovino Thomas, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Arya Salim in lead roles. It also marks the Malayalam debut of Tamil filmmaker and actor, Cheran. In an exclusive conversation with OTTplay, Anuraj spoke about his experience working with the renowned director.

Cheran's Malayalam debut in Narivetta

According to Anuraj, Cheran may have been persuaded to make his Malayalam debut after several years by the film's content. "He must have had his own opinions, even if it is clear that he had previously been presented with a lot of possibilities in Malayalam. I am glad I was able to have him over for my dream project," he remarked. Cheran, who has helmed a number of classic Tamil films that have garnered widespread acclaim, may have been convinced to work on this project based alone on its plot, the director said.

"Even when it was not his scene to perform, he was there behind the cameras on the set. Instead of sitting in a caravan, he was fully absorbed in exploring about the film's production," he continued. Recently, Cheran, a four-time National Award-winning director, made an appearance in the Tamil film Bioscope: The Story of the Story as a guest. Cheran's Journey, a web series that is available for viewing on OTTplay Premium and Sony LIV, was also directed by him.

Narivetta to stream on Sony LIV in multiple languages

The gritty police drama will begin streaming on Sony LIV from July 11 in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam. Viewers praised the movie for its ability to portray a community's strong resistance against institutional oppression. Additionally, it was a gripping sociopolitical drama with an interesting plot driven by emotional performances. The film's screenplay was written by Abin Joseph. Jakes Bejoy is the composer of the thriller's soundtrack and background music.
