Febin Sidharth has made his directorial debut with Pennu Case. In an interview with OTTplay, the director discussed how Nikhila Vimal's enthusiasm for the idea dispelled their initial doubts.

Pennu Case, a recent Malayalam film, is doing well with viewers after its theatrical debut was rescheduled to January 10. Febin Sidharth, a former editor who is now a filmmaker, makes his directorial debut with this comedy drama. In an interview with OTTplay, the director discussed how Nikhila Vimal's enthusiasm for the idea dispelled their initial doubts.

Casting process of Pennu Case

Febin, who is also the film's co-writer, disclosed that when they were developing Rohini, the main character, they didn't have a certain artiste in mind. However, Nikhila was their first option when they began casting. "She was really excited when we told her this story two years ago. However, we weren't sure if she would consent to play a character like that with a grey shade," he remarked. The director went on to say that he had Aju Varghese for the role of Subhash from the start, and that Ramesh Pisharody and Hakim Shahjahan were eventually cast during pre-production.

Writing Pennu Case based on real incidents

The young director went on to say that the main concept he had in mind when writing this screenplay was the widespread belief that someone's appearance or attitude, regardless of gender, may be used to determine whether or not they have committed an act of misconduct. "They appear innocent, so they must not have done anything. In current society, such notions are still widely held. In my mind, this was a crucial link," he remarked.

Febin went on to say that he created this script on actual events. "I once came across a newspaper item including a picture of a bride trying to flee the wedding location due to a problem. "Pennu Case's first poster was inspired by this," he said. Febin stated that he enjoys creating comedy films of this kind and that he created each character in Pennu Case to encompass all Malayalam lingo from different district in Kerala.
