Sarvam Maya star Riya Shibu on being compared to Nayanthara, Nazriya; says 'utterly overwhelming' | Exclusive

The young actress discussed the incredible reception she is getting for playing Delulu in Sarvam Maya and being compared to Nayanthara and Nazriya in an interview with OTTplay.

In just two weeks of its theatrical release, the Malayalam movie Sarvam Maya has already made over Rs 100 crore at the box office. In the meantime, audiences are constantly complimenting the film for its performances, particularly Riya Shibu's as Delulu. The young actress discussed the incredible reception she is getting and being compared to Nayanthara and Nazriya in an interview with OTTplay.

'Being compared to Nayanthara and Nazriya'

Along with Nayanthara in Vismayathumbathu and Nazriya in Koode, the actress has made it to the list of "endearing ghost" performances in Mollywood. Speaking of this, Riya recalled how thrilled she was as a child to see Nayanthara in Vismayathumbathu. "I've always admired both of these women, so it's thrilling to be compared to them. I am appreciative of all these posts on different social media sites," she remarked.

'Overwhelming response for Sarvam Maya'

After receiving such positive reviews for her performance in the Sarvam Maya, Riya emphasised that her heart is brimming with joy and a lot of other emotions. "Every response is so sincere that people come to speak with me as if I am a member of their family. Experiencing all of this makes me feel a little emotional. Seeing the housefull boards outside theatres is another rewarding experience," she continued.

The young star said that she has always enjoyed the idea of film and art when discussing her interest in acting. "When I started film school, I used to write stories and imagine myself in them. My passion for acting developed gradually. When I eventually got a phone or iPad, I shot pictures and videos of myself performing on it. I used to try to imitate some sequences from my favourite Hollywood movies earlier', she said. Riya disclosed that she used to dress up elaborately for school on her birthdays, and her teachers used to make fun of her if she was going to be an actress or a pop star. Akhil Sathyan's offer to make me Delulu in Sarvam Maya happened like a dream come true, she said.
