Actor-director Sourav Chakraborty’s Rajneeti has already created a buzz since its release on Hoichoi on May 26. The series which features Kaushik Ganguly, Koneenica Banerjee, Ditipriya Roy, Arjun Chakrabarty, and others delves into a political family and the inner dynamics of the members. In a chat, the director, Sourav, talked about the series and his journey.

Talking about the series, Sourav said that he and his team were tense before pitching the story to Hoichoi. “We had three stories and thought one of the stories will be selected. To our surprise, Srikantda (Mohta) liked this story instantly. He took no time to like it,” he said.

Sourav penned the story about a couple of years ago. “Later, Utsav (Mukherjee) and Rudradip joined in. I co-wrote with them. I always felt people in Bengal are politically aware and keen. Ishita, the creative director, and our team usually progress wholesomely – we developed the script, thought about the cast, planned the background music, and so on,” he said.

Selecting the right cast is one of the departments that garnered appreciation after the release of the show. “We select the characters purely based on the professional requirement and Hoichoi never interferes in the process. For us, a web series is like a novel – each character contributed to the story. Even the smallest of the characters in Rajneeti is important,” he said.

The first season of Rajneeti ended with a possibility of a second season. What’s the plan, we asked. “We have a script for season two but it depends on Hoichoi. The commercial success of the first season will probably depend if there will be a season two. If we get to do the second season, it will be a hugely different story. But before that, the reception of this season is important,” Sourav said.
