Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, the Tamil romantic drama starring actors Silambarasan and Trisha in the lead roles, completed 14 years on Monday since its release on February 26, 2010. The film, written and directed by filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon, went on to become of the iconic and romantic classic films to have come out from Tamil industry.

With the film completing 14 years, the romantic drama witnessed a re-release in selective theatres in Tamil Nadu. Many took to their social media handles to appreciate the film and shared their experiences of watching it again.

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa clocks 14 years

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa revolves around the romantic relationship between a Malayali Christian girl Jessie (played by Trisha) and Tamil Hindu boy Karthik (Silambarasan), whose family backgrounds come their way to be together. VTV became one of the commercial successes in Gautham Menon’s career and redefined romance dramas.

On Monday, the film marked 14 years since its release and had a re-run theatres. Many took to their social media handles to post about their experience and lauded how the film was still relevant and entertaining after all this time.

Movie lovers posted clips from the film and appreciated the lead actor's performances, and highlighted how they connect with the film despite releasing 14 years before. Check out for some of the fans’ reactions below.

Written and directed by Gautham Menon, one of the successes of the film was its music scored by AR Rahman, marking his first collaboration with the director. Tracks like Hosanna, Anbil Avan were chartbusters at the time of release.

The film also starred Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa Ganesh (who earned his monicker through the film's fame), Babu Antony, and Lakshmi Ramakrishnan, among others. Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa was simultaneously made in Telugu as Ye Maaya Chesave, starring Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Prabhu. Eventually, the film was remade in Hindi as Ekk Deewana Tha with Prateik Babbar and Amy Jackson.

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa was backed by RS Infotainment and Escape Artists Motion Pictures banners. Shot by cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa, Anthony Gonsalves edited it.
