Among the last few biggies to release in 2022, 18 Pages and Dhamaka opened to positive responses from critics on December 23. While Nikhil Siddhartha, Anupama Parameswaran starrer 18 Pages was aimed at the younger lot, Ravi Teja’s Dhamaka was an outright masala fare made for the masses. Did the clash with Dhamaka prove costly for team 18 Pages at the box office? We take a look.

According to a report by T2BLive, 18 Pages collected Rs 2.35 crores (gross) on its opening day across the globe. The film, which released in 400 theatres in the Telugu states, nearly grossed a crore each in the Nizam, Andhra regions while earning nearly Rs 25 lakh (gross) in the ceded areas. In other states across India and overseas regions, 18 Pages’ gross was Rs 30 lakh and Rs 80 lakh respectively.

The overall share for 18 Pages has come up to Rs 1.75 crores. The film needs to collect Rs 11 crore more to attain a breakeven status. While this is by all means a decent opening, one expected 18 Pages to perform better, especially after the lead pair’s earlier hit Karthikeya 2. Gopi Sundar’s songs Time Ivvu Pilla, Yedu Rangula Vaana and Nannaya Raasina turned out to be a hit with music buffs too.

Ravi Teja has always enjoyed an edge over most stars in the interiors of AP, Telangana and it has helped Dhamaka start on a better note than 18 Pages. 18 Pages, produced by Bunny Vas, was written by Sukumar and directed by Palnati Surya Pratap. With cinematography by A Vasanth, the film was edited by Navin Nooli. Sarayu, Ajay, Dinesh Tej, Posani, Raj Tirandasu essayed supporting roles.
