The latest Malayalam movie 2018 has taken the box office by storm, dominating ticket sales across the country. Not only has it become one of the highest-grossing movies in the history of Malayalam cinema, but it has also surpassed the previous record set by superstar Mohanlal's Pulimurugan . With over Rs 138 crore in ticket sales and continued success in cinemas, the film's digital release on SonyLIV is highly anticipated. According to sources, the movie will become available for streaming on June 9.

However, there have been concerns raised about the proximity of the digital release to the theatrical release of the dubbed versions. Despite initially receiving a modest launch in the southern states, the unexpected success of 2018 caught the producers off-guard. Word of mouth spread rapidly, resulting in a surge in demand. For instance, the movie was initially allocated only 30 shows in Bengaluru on the opening day, but it quickly escalated to over 100 shows. It has also emerged as the second highest-grossing Malayalam movie in Karnataka, accumulating over Rs 4 crore in ticket sales.

To capitalize on the growing popularity of 2018, the filmmakers have dubbed it in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi. The dubbed versions are set to release this Friday, aiming to maximize the movie's popularity before its digital debut. Director Jude Anthany Joseph explained that if they had waited for all the other versions to complete their dubbing and post-production before simultaneous release, the movie would have faced further delays. Hence, the decision was made to release the Malayalam version first.

The filmmakers are confident that audiences nationwide would prefer to experience the spectacle of 2018 on the big screen. Its visual grandeur and cinematic appeal are expected to draw viewers to theaters.

The star-studded cast of 2018 includes Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Aparna Balamurali, Kalaiyarasan, Narain, Lal, Indran, and Aju Varghese.
