30 Years of Surieyan: Sarathkumar calls the film, a turning point in his career

Sarathkumar's landmark film Surieyan has completed 30 years since release. The film, which was written and directed by Pavithran, and had Sarathkumar and Roja in the lead, was one of the biggest hits in Sarathkumar's character. The film also had ace comedian Goundamani playing a crucial role and some of the comedy scenes are a laugh riot that continue to resonate with the audience even after three decades.

Sharing a few throwback pictures from the set on his social media handle, Sarathkumar got all nostalgic about the film and wrote, "It is so blissful to think that 30 years have passed since the release of Surieyan, the turning point in my film career and one of the biggest commercial hit at that point of time. It is nostalgic when I think back #Surieyan produced by my good friend, gentleman @KT_Kunjumon, directed by @Dir_Pavithran, music by #Deva, cinematography by #AshokKumar, and stunts by #SuperSubbarayan, Reminiscing the joyous moments celebrated by the fans and the audience at large. My hearty thanks to each and everyone of them who made this possible."

The actor also expressed his happiness that the technicians who worked with him had gone on to become big in their respective journeys. "And it's very proud to think that many of the technicians who worked with me during #Surieyan have reached greater heights in their pursuit to achieve in the film industry. The journey continues! (sic)"

Sarath Kumar plays an IPS officer in the film, who is forced to flee after he is framed for killing a politician. He dons a disguise and pretends to have forgotten all about his past and works as a driver to the daughter of a landlord and for a lumber supplier. How he goes on to prove his innocence forms the rest of the story. After the success of Surieyan, Sarathkumar went on to work in super hit films like Nattamai and Suryavamsam, and got the title Supreme Star added to his name.
