In only 10 days, composer Arjun Janya’s debut directorial 45 will be in theatres. It’s a film that he’s meticulously planned, starting with creating an animated storyboard of what the final product will be like, and then investing a sizeable chunk of the budget on, what he says, are world-class graphics. The trailer of the film came out this evening, and what was most notable was that Arjun did not really reveal anything about the film, but, instead, kept the focus firmly on the world he’s created and the scale of those visuals.

45 trailer: Visual spectacle or UI 2.0?

The problem, though, is that some of the shots he’s chosen for his trailer look inspired from films like Mad Max and the Moon Knight series, while the graphics oscillate between good and bad on the quality scale. For the amount of time and money invested on the visual effects, which was also instrumental in delaying the film’s release, the visuals do not leave one awestruck. In fact, in the overall scheme of things, it reminds one of Upendra’s debacle from 2024, UI.

It goes without saying that Arjun’s background score was stellar, and the trailer hints at mass elevation moments for all three of his stars, especially Shivarajkumar and Upendra. The central conflict of the film revolves around Raj’s character and the conundrum he finds himself in. The film is 2 hours and 30 minutes in duration, which, Arjun said, he has used to ensure fans of all three actors are satisfied, which is also why, the film does not have stand-alone songs.

The plot of 45, according to the censor certificate, reads that Raj B Shetty’s Vinay’s life takes a drastic turn when he accidentally crosses paths with Rayappa. Shivappa, a saviour, steps in to protect him. The film promises a gripping thriller with elements of danger, suspense and heroism.
