Kannada music director Arjun Janya’s directorial debut 45 , starring Shivarajkumar, Upendra and Raj B Shetty in the lead, had also released last Christmas, in a direct clash with Kiccha Sudeep’s Mark. Arjun’s film was meant to have been in theatres much earlier, but was postponed owing to VFX completion delays. 45 had a good opening, but then crashed spectacularly, with audiences not too impressed with the onscreen imagination of life after death as per the Garuda Purana. ‘

Given Arjun’s long-term association with Zee Network, they picked up the satellite and digital rights of the film and then fixed January 23, 2026 for the streaming debut, in yet another clash with Mark, albeit on a different platform. Both films are also available via OTTplay Premium.

What is Arjun Janya's 45 about?

45 revolved around Raj B Shetty’s Vinay, a software engineer, who, one fine day has a nightmare about being crushed to death in a road accident, after he’d knocked down a dog with his bike, while talking on his mobile phone. The next morning, on his way to office, Vinay sees the exact same dog and runs it over yet again. He is then accosted by a couple of thugs working for a gangster called Rayappa, to whom the dog belonged. Rayappa vows to make Vinay pay for his misdeed, with slow torture and eventual death on the 45th day.

In his attempts to escape Rayappa’s wrath, Vinay has a chance meeting with Shivanna (Shivarajkumar), who helps him stay out of the former’s path. But how long can they dodge that bullet? Why is Rayappa hell-bent on killing Vinay? This is at the core of the film, which Arjun wrote after losing his brother during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The film was rumoured to have been made at a budget of around Rs 50-60 cr, a large chunk of which went towards the CG work, what with nearly 40% of the film requiring VFX. The box office performance was not great, with audiences calling out Arjun’s poor narrative and the shoddy VFX, among others.
