5 things you need to know before streaming Manoj Bajpayee's The Family Man 2

The makers of Manoj Bajpayee's The Family Man season 2 surprised fans by dropping the much-anticipated sequel before its scheduled date. The second instalment of the Amazon Prime Video original also stars Samantha Akkineni, in addition to Priyamani, Sharib Hashmi and Shreya Dhanwanthary among others. The first season of the show, which released in 2019, ended on a jaw-dropping cliff-hanger with a number of questions left to be answered.

We list below five things to know before watching the latest season, a crash course on season 1, to avoid watching it again. Also, SPOILERS (in case you haven't watched season 1 yet), so read on at your own risk.

It is a hilarious spy drama

Srikant Tiwari works at TASC, a discreet intelligence agency. He is underpaid and overstretched with his life as an undercover spy and a family man, providing for his family and seldom assisting in household chores, the root of his unassuming wife’s frustration. Srikant is good at his job, apprehending criminals and dropping snappy one-liners with pizazz. You will have plenty of both edge of the seat and laugh out loud moments.

Highly relevant in today’s time

It tries to broker a treaty between the gross generalisation of people belonging to a religion being terrorists and going at the root cause of the dire turn of events to become a terrorist by exploring it in a socio-political context in the current climate.

Peels of layers by looking at other characters

Not only does it focus on the impending terrorist attack but also on other characters like Suchitra (played by Priyamani), Srikant’s wife, and her own struggles, giving the show more layers.

An affair with answers in season 2 perhaps?

Suchitra had a one-night stand (or did she?) with Arvind, her colleague in Lonavala. Those two didn’t end on the most amicable terms so we are hoping for some answers in season 2.

It is not your usual terrorist attack show

Nothing is what it seems with quite a few twists and turns and a whole lot of sinister plotting. Srikant’s career also hangs by a thread, with an explosive video claiming him to have killed an innocent man on the suspicion of being a terrorist. The cliff-hanger already has us rooting for our favourite characters to save Delhi from the toxic gas leak as Mission Zulfiqar seems to be far from over.

We are definitely looking forward to how season 2 brings together all the elements and ties up the story.
