Earlier, before the release of Sitaare Zameen Par Aamir Khan announced that he wouldn't release the film on any OTT platform but would be available in theaters only, as he wants theatres to survive. However, just six weeks after its theatrical release, Aamir released Sitaare Zameen Par on YouTube via pay-per-view for Rs 100. Now, Khan announced that Sitaare Zameen Par will be available for rent for Rs. 50 only in this Independence Day weekend.

Sitaare Zameen Par is available on YouTube on a pay-per-view model at Rs. 100 per rental. In a video shared with fans, he encouraged viewers to watch the film with their families this Independence Day weekend. The caption read: “This Independence Day weekend, watch Sitaare Zameen Par on YouTube for only ₹50.”

Speaking to ETimes, Aamir explained that they were able to reach only 2-3% of our population in the theatrical business, even with the biggest hits. "For a film like Sitaare Zameen Par, around one crore people would have seen it during its theatrical run. Given the lack of sufficient theatres, this digital model is perhaps the only way to connect with a wider audience, especially with rising internet penetration," he said.

About Sitaare Zameen Par

Sitaare Zameen Par is the story of Gulshan Arora (Aamir Khan), a basketball coach who is forced to mentor a group of intellectually disabled people as part of his community service. Initially reluctant, Gulshan learns to connect with his players, encouraging a journey of personal growth and understanding as they prepare for the national tournament.

The film is directed by RS Prasanna and is a remake of the Spanish film Campeones (also remade in English as Champions), and it's a spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par.
