After almost two and half years of completing its shoot, director Prashobh Vijayan’s Adi is finally gearing up for release. The movie, which is produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films, had gone on floors soon after the pandemic restrictions were lifted in 2020 and wrapped up its production back in December 2020.

The wait for its release has been long, but the movie will now hit theatres across Kerala as a Vishu release in April 2023 along with Suraj Venjaramoodu and Babu Antony’s crime comedy Madanolsavam.

What is Adi about?

Adi, which is scripted by Ishq’s wrtiter Ratheesh Ravi, has Ahaana Krishna and Shine Tom Chacko essaying the roles of newlyweds. Queen and Khajuraho Dreams fame Dhruvan also plays a pivotal role in the movie, helmed by Prasobh Vijayan. The movie marks the director’s third venture after Samyuktha Menon’s Lilli and Jayasurya’s Anweshanam.

Unlike Prasobh’s previous two movies, Adi isn’t a thriller and is more a romantic drama that revolves around a newly married couple and the incidents that happen after their wedding. Shine plays an NRI who comes to Kerala to get married in the film, which also has Sreekanth Dasan, Anu Joseph and Bitto Davis in pivotal roles.

The movie, which was Wayfarer’s fourth production after Kurup, Maniyarayile Ashokan and Upacharapoorvam Gunda Jayan, was shot entirely, following the COVID-19 protocols. The team had completed the filming in 50 days with Aluva and Kochi being the prime locations.

Incidentally, last year, Shine Tom Chacko had put up a social media post, addressing it to Dulquer. The actor, who wrote that he “did this film with full heart” and it has some of “the finest performances” from Ahaana and Dhruvan. Shine, was most recently seen in Priyadarshan’s Corona Papers and Srikanth Odela’s Dasara, urged the superstar-producer to release the movie as soon as possible.

When and where to watch Adi?

Guess those words didn’t fall on deaf ears as Adi is set to hit theatres on April 14. The movie will clash with Madanolsavam, which is helmed by debutant Sudheesh Gopinath.
